North American Animals in Origami is one of my favorites. While most of the models took me a few stabs at the results are very rewarding. Montroll's style and clearly defined directions make his models a joy and challenge to fold. North American Animals in Origami edition by John Montroll Crafts Hobbies Home eBooks Reviews

This book offers detailed instructions and symbols, SO detailed that you could turn a plain piece of paper into a paper pet!
Mooses, Beavers, Ducks, Eagles and SO much more to make! Just imagine, you could make a forest with your creations, maybe a desert too!
Montroll does it again. This book is full of North American animals (and a couple plants) that are both fun to make, and lifelike (especially wet-folded). The book has a few decent models for all difficulty levels, with the average model probably somewhere between a 2 or 3 star. This book makes use of a few inside-out folded models (that is, the white vs. color plays a key part in the models design (snowy owl, raccoon)). I would recommend this book to all fans of origami, whether an expert or a beginning for some truly unique models. (One of my favorites is the prickly pear cactus, which is great for a wide variety of scenes).

Bottom Line
Highly Recommended (9.2 / 10)
Much too confusing. Looking at a direction with a picture of a piece of paper with 8 fold lines on it with 6 intersecting lines on it but NO fold arrows and the directions say "Fold and unfold." Fold and unfold WHAT? This was a total waste of money.
I bought this book for my 13-year-old son and he was fascinated. It's packed with inventive ideas, and tried-and-tested techniques. He did all the figures without problem.
I love the models in this book- no cutting required, and all begin with a square paper. Some are too hard for me but I enjoyed the ones I have completed. They are more on the realistic side. This is the book I used to learn to do origami. Montroll books are my favorite.
This book has some really interesting models. I primarily got it for the raccoon, which made me want to rip my hair out. Most origami books I own offer detailed descriptions of the steps in addition to the diagrams. This one depicts the steps, but most steps have no text at all. By the end of the model, some of the steps didn't seem possible. It's not easy to follow at all- poorly written in my opinion.
Great book with levels for every skill set. Even has pictures of common folds to help beginners. Love it.
